so long story short…..i’ve never encountered sangrias before. at the restaurant that i work at we started selling them. and they sell decently, i tried it once and i didnt care for it. but others that i work with say they are usually quite good. we use a burgandy wine, orange juice, black cherry liquor, and its way to strong! i do enjoy red wines but the oj just doesnt go with the wine. i went to some italian restaurant and decided to try theirs. and it was really good. the waitress said it was a red wine and “sangria mix” i want to try and make some at home but have had no luck finding ingredients. any help thanks.

This one from sounds great!
1 (750 ml) bottle inexpensive fruity medium-bodied red wine
1 (750 ml) bottle coconut rum (I use Captain Morgan)
1 large fresh orange
1 fresh lime
1 fresh lemon
5 fresh kiwi
1 lb green grapes
1 fresh mango
1 lb fresh strawberries
Wash and cut the fruit into small chunks.
You do not need to peel the fruit, just wash and chunk.
Place the cut fruit pieces into a large cooler.
(We buy the styrofoam disposable coolers with the lid.) Pour the full contents of the red wine and rum over the fresh fruit, mixing and stirring.
Cover the cooler and and let sit for at least 24 hours in a dark cool place.
(This is the hard part.).
Serve the mixture by spooning out with a laddle into cups with the fruit and liquid.
Can be poured over ice, but is equally as good straight from the cooler.

Although i dont have a specific recipie, here’s a few ideas.
Use relatively cheap red wine,
use sweet tasting fruit liquers in it, ie raspberry, strawberry, melon, peach, cherry etc etc.

sangria is typically an inexpensive red wine — burgundy might be a little heavy. the additional liquors wouldn’t mix with the wine at all in my thinking — WAY too heavy. Try a cheap zinfandel, some orange and lime juice, usually they have a splash of soda and a splash of sherry to balance it all out.
if thats not your thing there are also white sangrias made with white wine or champagne and peach/and or nectarine juice.

Sangria Recipe
Half fill a 1 litre jug with ice
Add chopped or sliced fruit : Orange, Lemon, Apple
Add a tablespoon of sugar
Now for the booze
Add 3 long dashes of: Bacardi, Cointreau and Brandy
Half or 3/4 fill the jug with Red Wine
Add a long dash of Orange Juice
Top with La Casera, Lemonade, Sprite or 7 up
Give it a good stir and serve.
Some recipes I’ve seen recommend that you chill it overnight??
I recommend that you drink it straight away!!
White Sangria Recipe
Basically White Sangria is the same as Red Sangria but you replace the red wine with white wine and leave out the orange juice.

there are many variations on SANGRIA since the drink is spanish in Origin you could go to a local spanish resturaunt and ask how they make it but, traditionally you start with a fruit based wine, now most wines are made from grapes but you want a wine that maybe has some other fruits in it as well. most Sangrias are red but for lighter or summery versions you may use a white at which time you could use a crisp Chenin Blanc or Chardonay. get a big glass pitcher and put fruit rings in it use oranges, lemons, limes, kiwi, cherries, think of fruit punch pinapple I have also seen melon in summer versions, whether you are using red or white you want to steep the fruit for several days in the wine place it in your refrigerator and JUST LET IT SOAK UP. serve in wine glases over crusshed ice with a mint sprig. enjoy!!!

A traditional Spanish Sangria Recipe:
1 x 750ml bottle of Red Wine, preferably young and fruity, like Rioja Crianza
3oz Brandy (inexpensive is fine)
3oz Orange Liquer or Triple Sec
1 cup Sugar
1 Fresh Lime (peeled – rind can create bitterness)
1 Fresh Orange (peeled)
1 Fresh Lemon (peeled)
3-5 Maraschino Cherries (destemmed)
In a pitcher, add sugar and fruit and muttle together with a wooden spoon. Add Red Wine, Triple Sec and Brandy. Pour over ice and garnish with orange, lime and cherry.
ENJOY!
